The children living in residential group homes are exposed to the arts by attending theater, dance, literature and poetry performances. Most of the performances are held in the homes. Artists, some of them well-known, visit the group home and perform in a planned and structured art encounter of about one hour. The children watch the performance and may be invited by the artist to take an active part. At the end of such encounters there is an intimate free discussion between the children and the artist. They are invited to ask questions about the field of art represented, the specific performance or the artist’s life.
In addition, there are also activities in the community, when the children attend a large production, such as a play, a concert or a dance performance.
A suitable repertoire is chosen for each group home, and the children residing there participate in 4 to 6 sessions of cultural enrichment in the course of the year. Many children are able to take part in this activity. Sometimes all the children in a home participate together, and sometimes they are divided into two or three age groups.
