Sports Project

This is a new project which provides children with a permanent framework for various forms of sport activities. The program enhances physical and emotional development and contributes to enriching the children’s free time and to achieving personal excellence.

The project involves all the residential group homes, and includes a wide variety of sports - soccer, basketball, tennis, swimming, marshal arts and self-defense, bike riding, horseback riding, and calisthenics. All ages are included, from preschoolers to teenagers, according to graded age requirements. The project’s goal is to offer the children a permanent, varied sports activity structure that will enable them to utilize positively their free time and will offer them opportunities to achieve personal excellence.

Ongoing structured physical activity contributes to a child’s capacity for concentration, self-confidence, achievement, self-discipline, sportsmanship, and encourages team work, cooperation and improved physical capacity, appearance, and general health.

The Sports Project includes the creation of an attractive and accessible basic framework for sports activities for children in residential group homes, including the training of counselors and the hiring of professional sports activity coaches.

Within the framework of the project, over fifty soccer clubs were opened in group homes under the auspices of “Hapoel Keter Tel Aviv”. In addition, cooperation with the National Tennis Center has been attained, and sports activities are undertaken between Israeli Arab and Jewish residential group homes in order to promote coexistence through sportsmanship.
