A moving ceremony was held on Tuesday December 9, 2003 when Yeladim - The Council for the Child in Placement inaugurated a Music Room at the Neve Haroeh Residential Group Home, in memory of the late Ida and Judge Reuben Haggen, the first justice of Ashkelon. The ceremony was attended by the couple’s daughter, Ziona Kashipov, who asked to perpetuate her parent’s memory in this unique manner, together with family, friends and Yeladim staff members. During the ceremony, Kobe Lishinski, a known singer and DJ arrived at the home, much to the surprise of the children and causing excitement among the young girls. Kobe, a friend of Ziona’s, is also a Yeladim volunteer. He recently organized a party at the Sofa Bit Club in Tel Aviv, where money was raised for a music room at another group home. The new music room at Neve Haroeh serves as a valuable resource for the group home’s children, aged 6-18. The acoustically paneled room will serve as a music study room and home of the center’s new darabukka (kettledrum) band, an activity to be developed at the children’s request and personally fostered by Ziona. Ziona Kashipov views the establishment of this room as the fulfillment of her father’s legacy to improve education in Israel and expand horizons through music. Ziona noted, “The music room is not just a room with four walls and instruments; it is a lively room, full of sounds and melodies that will accompany the childhood and, indeed, the life of the children at Neve Haroeh.” In the pictures from top - Kobe Lishinski with some young admirers Ziona and her son near the dedication plaque Ziona (center) among family and friends |
