El Al Squad Exhibits Basketball Skills for Children from the Nitzanim Residential Group Home November 16, 2003 For the past two years, employees from El Al, Israel’s national airline, have adopted the children of the Nitzanim Residential Group Home as part of a community service program in coordination with Yeladim - The Council for the Child in Placement. Aviva Lavi, an El Al manager, is the lively leader and driving force behind the employee volunteer group. This time Aviva recruited players from the company’s employee basketball team for an exhibition game against the children from the group home, at Nitzanim. The two teams played two 30-minute games. In the first game, the El-Al team won 30-16 but in the second, the squads were composed of players from both teams. Spirits were high throughout the evening among the children, their counselors and the El Al team. In her concluding remarks, Aviva Lavi expressed her hope that El Al and its employees will continue to initiate and implement activities similar to the day’s event. At the end of the day, the El Al players presented the children with a trophy, inscribed “To the Children of Nitzanim Residential Group Home, from the El Al Basketball Team.” We would like to take this opportunity to thank to the team’s players: Uri Gross, Kobi Buber, Ronen Sarusi, Alon Finger, Avi Ben-Amra, Shmulik Paz and Gili Eisen, as well as the team’s cheerleaders, Aviva, Keren and the women from El Al. Until next time¼ |
