Community Efforts on Behalf of Yeladim - The Council for the Child in Placement

Hundreds of leaders of the Israeli business community and society, including Galia Maor, Yonatan and Irit Kolber, Joey Schwebel, Hemi and Gila Peres, Yehudit and Rami Nusbaum, Alona Friedman, Dana Shevas, Hani Peri and others, gathered on a Friday morning in April 2004, for an event that combined aesthetics and the beauty of giving, held on behalf of Yeladim – The Council for the Child in Placement. At Ganei Rishpon, they enjoyed a show of Gottex’s new summer collection and J.B.  luxury jewelry, as well as a comedy performance by entertainer Hanna Laslau.

Approximately NIS 150,000 were raised at the event for the Remedial Reaching program that benefits children who live in residential group homes. In the framework of this program, the children acquire basic skills, and special focus is placed on the unique learning needs of each individual child. The program serves over 500 children residing in 30 group homes and employs 60 teachers.

Yehudit Nussbaum, a member of Yeladim’s executive board, says that “the money raised will enable an unprecedented increase of 10% in the number of children who benefit from this program in the coming school year. However, there are still 400 more children who need the services of this program but can not take part because of lack of funding.”

Galia Maor
, chairperson of the Friends of Yeladim for the last 6 years, explained that she joined the efforts on behalf of Yeladim – The Council for the Child in Placement because it provides children of normal ability with a real chance to become part of the community. She called upon the business community to continue its efforts on behalf of this important activity.
