In preparation for the yearly fund-raising event of "Yeladim – the Council for the Child in Placement", "Shalom Chanoch hosts Gidi Gov" in Tel Aviv's Cultural Center, Shalom Chanoch met with the children living in the Alumim residential group home in Kfar Saba. Tens of excited children waited to meet the famous singer at the gate. Ten year old Sharona insisted that he visit her room, which she shares with three other girls. In the residential group home club more children and their counselors awaited him. In response to their universal request, Shalom took up his guitar and began to sing "Children of Life" while the children and their counselors joined in. When the song ended, one of the children asked Shalom "Did you also grow up, like us, in a group home without your parents?" Shalom answered: "As a child I grew up on a kibbutz in a children's home that resembles a residential group home, although we saw our parents for two hours each evening. But I remember that it was fun for us children to be together". "It's fun for us too…" the children said. |
