In a meeting with the press prior to the event, Prof. Dan Schnidt, Chair of "Yeladim – the Council for the Child in Placement", said that the Council had raised over a million shekels that were earmarked for projects in Council operates in the residential group homes. He added that each year, among the children who graduate and leave the group homes, there are 400 youngsters who have no home, some are drafted into the army without family support, and without any source of aid.
The State of Israel invests more than a quarter of a million shekels in each child living in residential group care, but when the child graduates, there is no safety net available. "Yeladim – the Council for the Child in Placement" has made this issue a central one, and hopes to find additional sources of aid for the urgent needs of these young people.
Galia Maor, Director of Bank Leumi, said that she chose to Chair the Friends of the Council because investment in children in residential group care is the wisest and most proper investment.
The event was attended by hundreds of members of the business, financial and political community, well known public figures and generous contributors to the Council.
