Coexistence in Art

For the first time in their lives, 50 Arab and Jewish children from residential group homes in northern Israel viewed a unique art collection presented in an exhibition, sponsored by Israel Discount Bank, at Tel Aviv Museum. The children had the opportunity to visit the exhibit thanks to the efforts of the Omanut Laam Foundation.

Twenty-five children from the Ahava Residential Group Home in Kiryat Bialik and a similar sized group from the residential group home at Ilablin arrived together at the museum. Following a guided tour of the exhibit, the Arab and Jewish children divided into mixed groups and worked jointly in a variety of creative workshops, drawing portraits.

Ruth Ginosar, the Art Director at Yeladim - The Council for the Child in Placement, told of the chemistry that flowed between the children during their joint work efforts and their daring and unique drawings, as influenced by the exhibition.

On their way home, the newfound friends sat together, exchanging addresses and promising to keep in touch.

Thanks to Omanut Laam for choosing the children of the residential group homes to participate in this program.
